The Abraham Staats House is beautifully situated along the Delaware and Raritan Canal. With grants from Somerset County and Greenways, the borough purchased the Revolutionary War Headquarters of Major General Baron Von Steuben. The General occupied the adjoining front and back parlors during the Second Middlebrook Encampment 1778-1779. Von Steuben was General George Washington's Inspector-General and Drill Instructor. The Baron may have finalized what became known as the Army's "Blue Book," Regulations for the Infantry in the United States, while residing at this historic landmark.
